
The suveys are used to determine the driving force and to control the soil and infrastructure (floor) compaction as well as determine the weight per unit volume of the soil.
PLATE LOAD TEST (PLT)
This test is used to determine the deformability (driving force) and to control the soil and infrastructure (floor) compaction. According to the Switzerland Standard regulation SNV 670317a (1981) the plate load test allows the measurement of the ground below a plate area of about 700 cm2 (considered infinitely stiff), gradually loaded for determining the compressibility module or the Md coefficient of that soil, at first load cycle (Md1) and at second load cycle (Md2) to know the compaction degree.
IN SITU DENSITY MEASURES (Volumetric Sand)
The purpose of the test is to determine the weight per unit of volume of a soil or to verify the level of roadbed compaction. To do this, it’s necessary to dig and weigh a portion of compacted soil, replace it in the hole with sand, measure the volume and then calculate the density of the removed material, using the appropriate sand volumeter, properly calibrated and filled with sand of known physical characteristics
